La boite à RE - 2021

FR : Le projet de “La boîte à Re” a été réalisé dans le cadre d'un stage au Centre Sécurité Requin (CSR) sur l’île de la Réunion. Le stage s’est déroulé sous la direction d’Erwann Lagabrielle (tuteur professionnel, Maître de conférence en Géographie à l’Université de La
Réunion, chercheur affilié à l’UMR ESPACE-DEV, détaché au Centre Sécurité Requin),
Nicolas Roesch (tuteur universitaire, chercheur indépendant) et Diego Landivar (tuteur
universitaire, ESC Clermont, Origens Media Lab).

L’objectif de "La boite à RE" est de sensibiliser les acteurs à la diversité des représentations sociales du requin et du risque requin par un moyen/objet simple et ludique.

Méthode : Les résultats de nos recherches ont révélé la pertinence de distinguer 4
catégories d’usagers : en dehors de l’eau, sur l’eau, dans l’eau, sous l’eau.
Les mots associés à ces représentations ont été identifiés et représentés sur les faces intérieures d’une boîte en medium. Le requin est l’un de ces acteurs. Chaque face extérieure de la boîte figure une catégorie d’acteur en fonction de sa situation vis-à-vis de la surface de l’eau. Chaque face est percée d’un œilleton situé à l’emplacement de la tête de l’acteur représenté graphiquement par un dessin aux traits simples. L’utilisateur lit les mots associés au requin sur la face intérieure opposée, depuis l’œilleton où figure une représentation graphique de la catégorie d’usagers émettrice de ces mots. En face du requin est figuré un point d’interrogation symbolisant la complexité de se mettre à la place du requin et l’impossibilité de savoir ce qu’il pense. Le miroir matérialise le regard que nous portons sur lui et reflète notre point de vue socialement construit.

EN: The project “La boîte à RE” was developed during an internship at the Shark Safety Center (CSR) on Reunion Island. The internship was supervised by Erwann Lagabrielle (professional mentor, Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Reunion, researcher affiliated with UMR ESPACE-DEV, seconded to CSR), Nicolas Roesch (academic mentor, independent researcher), and Diego Landivar (academic mentor, ESC Clermont, Origens Media Lab).

Objective:
The aim of "La boîte à RE" is to raise awareness among stakeholders about the diversity of social representations of sharks and the shark risk through a simple and playful tool/object.

Methodology:
The results of our research revealed the importance of distinguishing four categories of users: out of the water, on the water, in the water, and under the water.

The words associated with these representations were identified and placed on the inner sides of a medium-density fiberboard box. The shark is one of these actors. Each outer face of the box represents a category of actor based on their position relative to the water's surface. Each side features a peephole at the location of the actor’s head, represented by a simple line drawing. The user reads the words associated with the shark on the opposite inner face from the peephole, where they can view the graphic representation of the category of users who generated those words.

On the side opposite the shark, a question mark symbolizes the complexity of understanding the shark’s perspective and the impossibility of knowing what it thinks. A mirror is placed to reflect the viewer’s gaze, symbolizing the socially constructed viewpoint we have of the shark.
